Prompt 10: Watch “Ray Parker Jr.” from Key & Peele. Write about something you are known for, but you wish you weren’t because you have so much more to offer. This could be by parents, friends, teachers, etc…
========================
Something I may be remembered for is that I was a hothead. Growing up, there were considerable things to be mad about. I sometimes reacted quickly, like a flash during a thunderstorm. Often, I was that turbulent storm.
I recall the exact moment of making a conscious decision to reject someone because I thought they rejected me first. I was 10 and I was so angry I decided no one would ever tell me what to do. I would be my own boss. Both the anger and the stubborn independence followed me, and both got me in trouble occasionally.
I still have WTF moments, though now I see myself as a person who feels things deeply, including compassion, empathy, and passion.
I can’t take back any of those inconsiderate moments when I blew up or hurt someone with my words. Some moments may still be considered justified, but today, it is far more compassionate to count to 10, breathe, and assess a situation. I find I am calmer and certainly more thoughtful about everything.
It surprises me too sometimes, but I’m sure God has a hand in it too.
